Becoming a sider was not something I had planned from the beginning. It just happen unexpected. In this post, I'll share my personal story of how I entered the world of siding, the lessons I learned along the way, and the joys of living the sider life.
Discovering My Passion
While working for a temp agency I was sent out to clean a job site, as I clean up the site I would notice the workers working on the exterior of the newly constructed building and wase at awe at how easy the work looks I had always enjoyed working with my hands, but I never thought of it as a career it was my fist time really seeing that type of work being done. As I watch intensely the workers took notice stop working and ask if I was OSHA or something, I replied no, so they ask if I'm looking for work, I said yes they replied, start tomorrow. I showed up to work the next day, as I learn to install the new material I now know as siding, I felt a thrilling sense of excitement. The transformation was astonishing, and I found myself captivated by the process.
The satisfaction of witnessing a project come together was unlike anything I'd experienced before in this multitude. In that moment, I realized that I wanted to explore this newfound passion more deeply.
Learning the Basics
After that initial experience, I knew I had to dive deeper into the world of siding. I've moved on to working for various company learning more and more as I go at some point I found myself thinking that there got to be more advance ways to install siding I began researching different materials, installation techniques, and the overall siding process.
Surrounding myself with professionals who shared their tips and tricks helped me gain practical skills that would serve me well. For example, I learned about fiber cement siding and its ability to withstand extreme weather—a crucial factor in my region where storms occur frequently.
Gaining Experience
With a solid foundation of knowledge, I was eager to put my skills to the test. I started small projects for friends and family. Each job presented its unique challenges, and I embraced them all. From measuring and cutting to installing and finishing, I learned something new with every task.
My experience taught me the importance of attention to detail. Siding isn’t just about looks; it’s essential for a home’s protection against elements like wind and rain. For instance, well-installed siding can protect against moisture infiltration, which can lead to costly repairs later. I began to appreciate the craftsmanship involved in creating a durable and visually appealing exterior.
Overcoming Challenges
The journey was not without its obstacles. There were moments of feeling overwhelmed, especially with complex installations. I remember being called to work on a winery, a job that was so complexed that I started crying after realizing the challenges ahead of completing the project.
My challenges fostered resilience. I learned to adapt and work through problems in real-time. Each setback became an opportunity for growth, teaching me that learning often happens outside of one’s comfort zone and con sometimes involve risk. It’s estimated that 80% of successful tradespeople faced significant setbacks before finding their footing in their industry.
Building a Network.
As I go about my day I would stop by any active job site I see alone the way and hand my business card out and introduce myself
I take photos of the work i do and post them online, engaging with others allowed me to stay updated on industry trends and innovations. The camaraderie among fellow siders inspired me to keep moving forward. For example, I discovered new energy-efficient materials that could enhance a home’s insulation by up to 30% for that reason I tend to go for better quality material that would benefit consumers.
Embracing the Sider Life
Once I built confidence in my skills, I fully embraced the sider life. I began taking on larger projects and even started my own small business the feeling was liberating, and I relished the variety of work that came with the territory.
Each day brought new challenges and learning opportunities. I took immense joy in transforming homes and helping clients realize their visions. The satisfaction of completing a job well done was incredibly rewarding. According to the Home Improvement Research Institute, homeowners who invest in siding projects often see a return on investment of up to 75% when they sell their homes. I've also notice a house that was not selling now sold quickly after new siding and painting was done.
Continuing Education
Even as I established myself in the industry, I understood the need for continuous learning. The siding industry constantly evolves with new materials and techniques. I made it a priority to stay informed.
I enrolled in advanced courses and sought certifications to enhance my skills. This commitment to education not only improved my craftsmanship but also boosted client confidence. They could see I was dedicated to remaining at the forefront of the industry.
The Joy of Sharing Knowledge
As I gained experience and expertise, I felt a strong desire to give back. I began mentoring aspiring siders, sharing my insights with those starting their journey. It was rewarding to witness their growth and success.
Additionally, I started a blog to document my experiences and share tips with a broader audience. Writing about my journey allowed me to connect with others who shared my passion for siding. It became a way to inspire and encourage those considering a similar path.
